Plot Synopsis:
-------------------

Nicole (Reese Witherspoon) is a fairly innocent teenager but with a rebellious side, particularly directed at her father, Steven Walker (William Peterson). At a rave, Nicole meets David McCall (Mark Wahlberg), and is swept off her feet by his sweet, polite nature. Steve, seemingly overprotective, doesn't trust David from the moment he meets him. Steve also gets angry when Nicole violates her curfews to spend more time with David. The closer Nicole and David become, the more Steven objects. One day, David scares Nicole when he sees her hugging her friend, Gary. He physically assaults Gary and shoves Nicole to the ground when she tries to stop him, leaving her with a black eye. Nicole ends things with David, leaving him crushed. The next day, he talks to Nicole, apologizes, and things are smoothed over for the couple.

Nicole clings to David and he uses that to his advantage since he knows from their conversations about the tension between her and her father. He is more than happy to comfort her in every way. Steven is still suspicious so he does some checking into David's background and finds out that David is not who he appears to be. Steven confronts David on a street corner and orders him to stop seeing Nicole. David is still polite and says he has no intentions of hurting Nicole. Then he taunts Steven about wanting to keep his daughter a little girl forever and that he was scared David will take her away from him. He also says that Steven's wife isn't satisfied sexually and implies that she has been coming on to David. Steven is only interested in protecting his family and drives off. David doesn't take orders very well. David beats himself in the chest repeatedly until he is bruised, and Nicole accuses Steven of assaulting David. She leaves in an angry rage with David, who was waiting in the car outside. Later, David drops Nicole off, asking if she'd rather come home with him. Nicole declines but then changes her mind and drives to his house where she discovers Margo giving David's friend a lap dance. David then interferes and grabs Margo from behind and takes her to his room, proceeding to rape her, but Nicole believes Margo goes willingly. Nicole is devastated and completely breaks it off with David, wanting nothing more to do with him. She also doesn't want anything more to do with Margo. Later that week, David follows Nicole into a ladies' room in the mall and molests her.

In a final, desperate attempt to get evidence to use against David, Steven breaks into David's house and discovers a shrine to Nicole in his bedroom. In a rage, Steven vandalizes the house, especially David's room. David and his friends make their way into Steven's house in revenge using scare tactics to gain access. David ties up Steven and brings him up to Nicole's room to "say goodbye" to his daughter. While David tells Nicole, "It has to be this way," he asks her if she wants to go with him. She fakes affection for him and says "yes." Laura frees Steven and he and David fight violently. Steven then throws David out the second-story window to his death.
Liv Tyler turned down the role of Nicole Walker.
------------------------

During the movie, any time David or Nicole say, "I love you" to the other, the other never says it back.
------------------------

The song being played during the roller coaster scene was performed by the band "The Sundays". A cover of the Rolling Stones original called "Wild Horses".
------------------------

The rollercoaster featured in this movie is called "The Coaster". It is one of the biggest attractions at Playland, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
------------------------

In a 1993 draft of the screenplay, titled "No Fear", Nicole's mother was seen in flashbacks. Her name was given as "Melissa Nichols" (thus explaining the origin of Nicole's first name).
------------------------

As of March 2, 2018, Universal Pictures is developing a re-imagined take on this film with Jonathan Herman penning the script, and will be told from a female perspective.
------------------------

During the scene where Steve Walker (William Petersen) is ransacking the house, in which David (Mark Wahlberg) lives, "Chucky" from the Child's Play/Chucky film franchise can be seen briefly on the mantle in his room.
------------------------

This movie was inspired by the Bollywood movie Fear (1993).
------------------------

Prior to this movie, James Foley directed Madonna's music videos "Live to Tell", "Papa Don't Preach", and "True Blue". "Live to Tell" is about deceit, mistrust, scars, and being strong in spite of everything. All of which Nicole must deal with throughout the movie. "Papa Don't Preach" mirrors Nicole's strained relationship with her father and stepmother, who mean well, but at first can't relate to her as well as they think they can. "True Blue" parallels David and Nicole's initial feelings for each other, which (particularly in David's case) soon get way out of hand.
------------------------

The tattoo David gives himself reads, "NICOLE 4 EVA".
------------------------

When David and his friends are about to invade the Walker house and Laura is opening the door, we hear David say to his friend "Terry, go out there and keep a watch." But his mouth says something different.
------------------------

When David and his friends go to Margo's house so that David can apologize to Nicole, she attempts to leave in her SUV. When the camera is focused on the back of the vehicle, you can see the reverse lights on but can also hear the engine turning over at the same time. The reverse lights only come on when the vehicle is in reverse and also cannot be started unless it's in park or neutral.
------------------------

When Margo comes into the house and says they found Gary dead; she says that he was beaten to death - however, David snapped his neck.
------------------------

When Nicole and Margo are in the bar for the first time, we hear and see Nicole ask Margo "What do you want to eat?" and then we see her instantly ask "What do you want to eat?" a second time.
------------------------

When David hits himself in the chest repeatedly after he talks with Mr. Walker, Nicole comes home and tells her dad that she saw bruises all over his chest, but shortly after David carves "Nicole 4 Eva" on his chest, there are no bruises or any marks.
------------------------

When Steve comes home and angrily finds David in his backyard, he watches David throw Nicole into the pool. Moments later, David is kissing Nicole's forehead and her hair is dry.
------------------------

Steve Walker is on the phone in his office. In one frame he is holding the phone in his left hand. In the next frame he is cradling it with his shoulder, then reaches up with his left hand to hang it up. It is also momentarily a cordless model.
------------------------

When Margo comes to visit Nicole at her home it is dark outside. When the two girls go outside a few minutes later it is light.
------------------------

We see and hear Margo being brutally beaten and punched in the face. But a short time later, she only has a swollen cheek.
------------------------

Nicole's hair changes from light blonde to dark blonde and back again several times, as the movie progresses.
------------------------

When Nicole & David are on the roof after the rave, we see steam come out of their mouths as they talk. But as the scene progresses, this starts & stops.
------------------------

During the fun park scene, while David and Nicole are kissing, her left hand is caressing his cheek and her nails aren't manicured. The next scene, on the roller coaster (pulling up the bar), all of her nails are done with tips. Then, when David is touching her thighs, the manicure is gone.
------------------------

When Steve and Laura are talking in their bedroom, Steve stands in the doorway wearing only a towel from his shower. His chest and hair go from dry to wet and back, as they talk.
------------------------

After Steve throws David out the window, we see an extremely swollen-faced Margo calm Toby in the hallway. When she enters Nicole's room moments later, her face is no longer swollen.
------------------------

When Nicole and Gary talk in the school cafeteria, her hair jumps around several times between shots.
------------------------

Nicole's hair changes length from long to short, from scene to scene.
------------------------

After Nicole is nearly attacked by Logan and she is sitting up on the bed, her shirt goes back and forth from being ripped at the sleeve and exposing her bra strap to being untouched.
------------------------

Nicole's hair keeps changing from neat to messy and back again at several points in the movie: near the beginning, when she and Margo and Gary are in the bar; when she sits on the park fence with David, shortly after the police break up the rave at which both youngsters hook up; when she comes to surprise David at his party and finds him with Margo; near the end, when she sits on her bed while David explains why he'll have to kill her father.
------------------------

In the sex scene, around when David tells Nicole he loves her, he puts his right arm around her twice.
------------------------

When David is chasing Margo in the car, the headlights of both their cars go on & off.
------------------------

Nicole's figure fluctuates noticeably, if slightly, throughout the movie...particularly when Margo comes over to see her, and they argue about David's being less than faithful to Nicole. As Nicole shows up wearing a purple blouse and red jeans, she is gym-trim. When she storms out after Margo just seconds later, Nicole is somewhat heavier - almost curvaceous. Since the entire film takes place over a couple of weeks at most, it is unlikely that Nicole simply went on a diet.
------------------------

The coded lock for the front door is mechanical, not electrical; therefore the beeping is fake, and the lock is by no means attached to the security system. Moreover, if the alarm system had been disconnected, the entry code would be useless for getting inside.
------------------------

The popularity of Rebelde - and of Britney Spears "Baby One More Time" video - notwithstanding, it is very unlikely that students at any public school would be permitted to wear attire as revealing as Margo's and Nicole's. Also, it is even less likely that 20-somethings (like David and Company) would be allowed on and off school property without a reservation and/or a security check.
------------------------

When Nicole and Margo first walk into the rave, they pass by a young man with a ponytail who wears an orange shirt; he smiles at them. Moments later, they pass by the same exact man again.
------------------------

Laura's hands change positions much too fast, between peeling shrimp and resting on the counter, after Steve slams the cabinet door angrily.
------------------------

The note that Nicole writes, and the notes that David writes, all have the same handwriting. It's evident from this that the same person wrote all these, be it David or Nicole or neither.
------------------------

When David carves the tattoo "Nicole 4 Eva" on his chest, we see him use a broken piece of pen to carve the letters. A moment later he hoses off the blood and then wipes down his chest. Not only would the blood continue to run out of the cuts immediately, but there are no signs of any cuts on his chest. Its obvious the words were simply written on.
------------------------

When Toby is in the Wagoneer dialing 911, we see the numbers appear on the display but the background does not light up. Its obvious he is not really dialing the phone.
------------------------

We see David kick Gary viciously & repeatedly in the ribs. Yet the next time we see him, which is a weekend away at most, he is walking with no discomfort whatsoever.
------------------------

When the power is cut to the Walker house, we see Steve continue trying to use the cordless phone. A beeping is heard as he presses the buttons; but if the power were gone, there would be no sound.
