In peep show terms, 3 LITTLE PENNIES is porn that ain't worth a nickel. Reissued on Vol. 58 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series, it is ephemeral crud of no redeeming value.
Cast for their good-looking breasts, three women topline as two roommates and a substitute (lame "script" has a third roommate named Jean who doesn't show up, so a third girl takes her place -MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER) pay their bills at the first of the month by bartering sex. They announce servicing for the insurance man, milkman and landlord, but the landlord never shows up in this annoyingly stupid film.
The three girls are relentlessly cheerful but can't act and are routine sex performers. Male cast is truly repulsive, with some sort of hat fetish (first ofay guy wears a black thing over his hair that resembles a doo-rag, and the spirit of Doris Wishman is alive during the milkman segment when a closeup of his strange white hat placed on an end table is repeatedly inter-cut for "transitions").
Speaking of transitions, the editing is miserable, with the do-ragged insurance "boy" treating us supposedly to three money shots in quick succession, apparently delivered by poorly matched stunt cocks via inserts.
The film's only interesting sequence, which would be controversial if this generic porn was rediscovered by the legions of latter-day fans who have recently lionized the heavyweights like Wishman, Sarno and Millard, involves an underage boy. A paperboy arrives who is so androgynous looking at first I thought it was a papergirl. He is "initiated" against his will by one of the women in a haphazardly edited scene, but his little penis won't respond -she gets angry at him and throws him out.
This distasteful footage can only have been included (I infer) as a sop to the pederast segment of the porn audience. For the uninitiated, back in the day straight porn theaters attracted quite a few on-the-make homosexuals, who would attend hetero cinemas as good hunting grounds to find single men -the intuitive notion that they would go to GAY cinemas misses the point: there were a hundred times more regular porn houses extant. I even witnessed this once in London at a flea pit where I attended in the '70s to see a rarely shown film (the barely shown Jack Palance vehicle WELCOME TO BLOOD CITY), and was astounded to see a non-stop changing of seats by the majority of the solo male crowd -they were all trying to pick each other up. Ah, the travails of a film fanatic like me back in the day.
