This is your typical cliché movie. I wanted to leave after 30 minutes of watching it. Boy and girl are friends. Oops, they fall in love, oops. Oh no! They will not be together for some soap opera reason that makes the audience, tired by the same story, let out an underwhelming sigh. The ending drags on and is so, so, so cliché. Alison Brie is a fabulous actress but I found her character the way I find the sound of nails on a chalkboard. Jason Mantzoukas was actually pretty funny, so his scenes were great. Jason Sudeikis was in his typical type of role, so no excitement there. A lot of famous actors, pretty shiny things for audience to get distracted by to forget they've already seen this story a thousand times.

Let me start by saying, the title is misleading.

You might think that this is about a married couple (or couples) who have a "free" relationship and it is allowed to sleep with other people, have one night stands and so on.

Far from it and far from original, this is the story of 2 students (a "boy" and a "girl") who had a fling and meet again after 15 years but they are reluctant to begin a relationship between them. They try to stay friends and keep their relationship platonic while they keep denying to follow the physical attraction they have to one another.

So, it is basically a "When Harry met Sally" rip off which tries to implement a more raw "sexual" and comedic style.

Despite the fact that this is rated "R" there is no nudity or vulgarity which makes it a bad decision to rated like that. If nothing else they lose tickets without a cause.

The 2 leads are somehow likable but I wouldn't say that they have a strong chemistry together. The rest of the cast is mostly unsympathetic especially Adam Scott who plays the man-trophy in this.

It is not funny per se. Near the end the things might even be considered dramatic with a scene that seems pointless and out of the blue, just before the obvious (from the start), forced conclusion.

There are some technical problems too. The direction and especially the editing are amateurish especially at the beginning of the movie.

Overall: I understand that there is some hype about this movie and some people are excited to see it (maybe they misunderstood the premise too). But this is overall a sub-par movie, trying to wear the shoes of a rom-com classic.

After paying to watch it I at first regretted not watching the preview as the beginning suggested it just might be too sophomoric and unfunny. But the film actually turned out to be fairly witty and definitely engaging. Yes, it was predictable but the dialogue and scenes were lively enough to make it not matter. To me there was only one major flaw in the movie and that centered on Adam Scott's character of Matthew. First off, he was so unappealing and unattractive, at least to me, that I couldn't understand the attachment of Lainie to him. Why him, and why for so long? Also, to somehow equate Lainie's attachment to Matthew with Jake's philandering really didn't make much sense. But overlooking these discrepancies I was still able to enjoy watching this romantic comedy, just as being able to predict the ending didn't stop me from smiling at it.

Jason was very funny and charming, and he plays a guy most dudes can relate to.

Jason tells the story from a guy's point of view which is something that is not done in chick clicks, but I guess when you're as charming as Sudeikis, you can pull that off.

Plus Alison Brie was the perfect Straight man for Sudeikis's comedy. It's not as laugh out loud as I hoped it would be but it had a few giggles and how the story was laid out made for a very entertaining film.

I enjoined it.

'Sleeping with other People' is a breath of fresh air. Now keep in mind that it is still a romantic comedy at its base, but layered on top of that base is a warm story about friendship, and what it truly means to love someone when you're scared to, and when you're the only obstacle in the way of your happiness.

Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie have a fantastic chemistry, but more than their relationship with each other, their relationship with themselves is what helps to make the movie so lovable. Each character is holding onto a dream that won't be fulfilled and they aren't afraid to know it. To say it out loud. To look for a solution. The movie doesn't spend time trying to solve character traits or conveniently having the characters not know that they would be perfect together. The characters know and wait until they are 100% ready to accept it or move on.

There is no crisis of character here. Happiness is happiness in any form that their friendship wants to take and they know it. The story is written to show that love manifests in many ways. And you don't sit there hoping they get together. You're content with the two whether they're romantic or not. Great film. 9/10

Obviously this is not the most original story of all time BUT the script is well done and very funny. Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis are demonstrating they are very good actors with great capacity to enter into their characters back stories and atmosphere.

Boy and girl meet, fall in love and... well you probably already know the end result but there is a cast of great supporting characters supporting the two leads. Everyone will appreciate and have a good time watching this movie and getting enthralled by the exchanges between the two leads.

Definitely recommended.

After losing their virginity to each other in college, Elaine "Lainey" Dalton (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) part ways. More than twelve years pass before the two meet again by chance outside a sex addiction clinic - and eventually embark on a real first date. But Lainey, still obsessed with pursuing an affair with an old flame, Dr. Matthew Sobvechik (Adam Scott), and Jake, admittedly a serial womanizer, agree to maintain a completely platonic relationship - complete with a safe word should their conversations or behaviors become too sexual. As Jake and Lainey quickly become great friends, continuing to confide tales of romantic triumphs and misadventures with each other, they slowly begin to realize that the mutual attraction building between them can no longer be ignored.

The opening scenes and the initial premise are largely unbelievable as they paint portraits of college flings and their lasting effects on adulthood. The following, slow-motion run through the rain to chase down an angered girl with smeared makeup as punk music plays in the background doesn't improve the scenario, though it does eventually change course and offer up a couple of diverting laughs. The rest of the project tries its best to avoid the romantic comedy tropes it initially depended on while also imparting a bit of dramatic heart.

That's another problem, however, as "Sleeping with Other People" doesn't quite know what it wants to be. The tone is consistently humorous, with Jason Sudeikis' nonstop jokes mustering genuine laughs, yet severer moments keep cropping up. Frequently, it's as if two separate movies are unfolding simultaneously. Even some of the more original gags (such as a crash course in female masturbation) are alternated with the darker concepts of real psychological disorders and graphic sex. The beginning details of sex addiction treatment and coping methods soon give way to the truths of waiting for Mr. Right and yearning over the one that got away. "You're not an addict – you're just a whore."

In its attempts to be both serious and goofy, the film struggles. But, fortunately, Brie and Sudeikis are talented actors, capable of not only delivering clever bits of dialogue (intermittently written with perceptive verve by Leslye Headland) but also crafting characters worthy of attention and sympathy. No matter how formulaic it is to see the two lead personas - hopelessly right for one another - continue down disjoining courses, it's routinely amusing to see them veering back to their inevitable conclusion. It's a strange balance, with the comedy and drama working best when not intermingling, like a modernized take on "When Harry Met Sally" as the inherent degeneration of platonic relationships are revealed and the risks of experimenting with love become more disconcerting.

In the end, "Sleeping with Other People" proves to have just enough surprising sequences of individuality that it can't be relegated to the raunchy teen comedy realm of projects like "Just Friends," "No Strings Attached," "Friends with Benefits," and "40 Days and 40 Nights." The screenplay is wired with frank sexual conversations and slightly higher-brow references (like the early days of Seth MacFarlane's "Family Guy" show), generating arrestingly fast-paced repartee like a dirtier Woody Allen (again, from the early days). Resultantly, much of the denotative remarks will likely be lost amongst the target audience (including mentions of "The West Wing," "Misery," the IBM ThinkPad, Anne Sullivan, Blues Traveler, Pinkerton from "Madame Butterfly," Malcolm Gladwell, Bobby Fischer, and the opening scene from "Beverly Hills Cop").

I heard about this film online after seeing promotional ads for it, trailers, and what not. I'm a huge fan of Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, and Natasha Lyonne, so I decided to check it out. After seeing the trailer, I thought it was going to be some sort of raunchy-R-romantic comedy that really just didn't have a plot, but I was blown away by the amazing performances by Alison Brie and Jason, the story is actually very good, and took me a bit to figure it out in the end. The cast of the film is great, and it's a film, I would totally recommend to your friends or family. I actually really liked this film, and can say its one of my favorites.

I am in love with this movie. I didn't really know Alison Brie until Community and I had never seen her in a full length motion picture before. But god damn she is good and especially with Jason. They have excellent chemistry and we know Jason can play the womanizer part quite well. I fell in love with all of the characters and it was so heartwarming seeing this relationship develop between these two ridiculous characters. I would rate this my top romantic comedy ever but Love Actually still takes the cake. I still highly recommend this. So funny and so touching. I almost wish Jason and Alison would get married in real life. And I am most definitely sexually attracted to this movie.
