In World War II, the German pilots Lieutenant Horst Schopis, Josef Schwartz and Wolfgang Strunk crash their airplane in the wilderness of Norway after shooting down a British airplane. They walk through a snow storm until they reach shelter in an abandoned hunter cabin. Soon the British pilot Captain Charles P. Davenport and the gunner Robert Smith arrive in the cabin and they become prisoners of the German pilots. However, after the initial friction between the enemies, they realize that they should team-up to survive in the wilderness in the beginning of an improbable friendship.

Based on true events. The names of the German airmen were not changed for this film, but the names of the British airmen were changed. The real names of the British airmen were captain R. T. Partridge (Davenport) and R.S. Bostok (Smith).

When the German bomber crashed, it is likely at least one engine would have been powering it, if not both, so some of the propellers should have been bent back due to the aircraft's forward speed at contact with the ground. They are all in pristine condition as if a snow had merely covered a parked aircraft.

German pilots did not have a parabellum as a personal weapon. They use Walther or Mauser HS since they were smaller and more handy.

Lt. Davenport is wearing a Royal Marines shoulder patch which is clearly visible when they are preparing the sled with Schopis. The Royal Marines had no aircraft and hence no pilots. He should've been wearing a Navy patch. In the real life events on which the movie was based on, Davenport and Smith (their real names were Partridge and Bostock) were flying a Royal Navy Sea Skua fighter bomber and they were both Navy officers.

When Strunk checks the stove upon first arrival to the cabin, he curses saying that there are only two matches left. However, in the first hot of the matchbox having been emptied. there are nine matches that can be easily seen. It could be said that perhaps the other seven had been spent, but they disappear in the next shot.

After Strunk was shot and died, on the following shot he is still breathing. It can be also seen on the last shot, which was taken on the mountain, before they are leaving.
